Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, at that time aged of 38 years,
multifaceted artist become famous through the design (particularly
the caricature satirical, incisive and political - managed
the humorist newspaper “O António Maria”
established by him in 1878) it has been nominated artistic
director and his brother Feliciano Bordalo Pinheiro, “industrial
director and daily administration of business in the factory”.
The
faience constituted since always the main production
of this factory.
Along of its history it is possible to find phases of
the bigger attention dispensed, now to the decorative
and artistic faience now to the utilitarian, but in
all of them it is present the great preoccupation of
compatibility of both kinds within the technique and
artistic limits.
