Placed
in the orle of Thermal Park of Caldas da Rainha, prolongation
of the historical centre of the city, it’s today
the most ancient ceramics factory in Caldas, still working.
Established in 1908, with equipment of an old industrial
unity, originated in 1884, whose main inspirer has been
the artist Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, died in 1905.
The
original factory, whose leader has been Rafael Bordalo
Pinheiro, called “Fábrica de Faianças
das Caldas da Rainha” and its statutes has been
approved in a meeting with the main sponsors effected
in October 1883.
IT has as a purpose “explore the ceramic industry
in the particular branch of faience”, and it proposed
itself to introduce in the market beside ceramical products,
decorative and covering, typical earthenware of the
region of Caldas. Namely “articles of the finest
faience, engrave with original engravings for ordinary
uses and ordinary earthenware to be used for the less
riches classes”.
